If In Doubt Rinse it Out
To safeguard your work from chemical contamination, rinse out all beakers and trays before and after use with hot water. Never assume that any piece of equipment in the darkroom has been cleaned. Any piece of equipment that has a white powdery residue on it has definitely been contaminated and should be rinsed before using.
Avoid Drips
When taking prints out of the darkrooms to view under white light, make sure that they are in a small tray. Do not carry wet pieces of equipment or materials through the hallways. If you drip clean it up - wet floors can be dangerous.
Keep Your Hands Clean
A small kitchen-type towel is mandatory for every student using the lab. We suggest wearing a towel through your belt so that it is always available for drying hands. Rinse your hands immediately after contacting chemicals. Special care should be taken to make sure that your hands are clean and dry before handling unexposed photo paper.
Clean Up Your Workspace
Before leaving, you must close the negative stage of your enlarger cardboard inserted, and cover the enlarger with a plastic bag to shield it against dust. If you are using a private lab, return it to the same condition you found it in or better - Water off, all electricity off, and the door locked behind you.
No Smoking
Disregarding any of the points of ettiquette is grounds for dismissal from the darkroom. Many students share this workspace, and your cooperation fosters a clean and cooperative enviroment for everyone.
Thank You.
